Tale End

The tail end of 2015 saw my tale end with ABC Bunyip Saves the Big Black Boogie Swamp finally printed in time for Christmas.

Do you know what 2500 books looks like? I was clueless until 56 cartons arrived on a pallet! Shall I say, it is a lot? And there was no need for a gym workout after stacking them in my spare room.

ABC Bunyip Saves the Big Black Boogie Swamp early arrival put paid to my tentative book launch plans. My “babies” arrived early on a Friday afternoon and that evening at the Boddington Christmas Extravaganza, I was autographing copies and my first book sales made their way out the door.

Reader feedback has been amazing. Requests for more in the series (I didn’t know I was writing a series), the real story of Archie and Raymond and a phone call urging me to enter into a literary competition have made the hard work worthwhile. Happy Dance!

I am so glad the Boddington bookworms are thriving.

Bookworms rock!

Until next time…happy reading.

Nicknames

Hi there! I am Kathy Littlemore aka The Bunyip Lady.

I have had all sorts of nicknames over the years, but it was not until I wrote ABC Bunyip Saves the Big Black Boogie Swamp, my first Children’s Picture Book to be released later in 2015 that I was dubbed The Bunyip Lady. And you know what? I sort of like it. My secret identity! Nicknames are a special form of acceptance. Even my main character in ABC Bunyip Saves the Big Black Boogie Swamp wants a nickname.

As a travel photojournalist, writing a Children’s Picture Book, has been a huge learning curve. There is a show biz saying, “Never work with children or animals.” I think it might apply equally in the world of children’s books.

It seems children are particularly critical. It an author omits something or makes a mistake, their pint sized reading audience are unforgiving and crucify them unmercifully. Writing a Children’s Picture Book has been like trying to write War and Peace in 750 words. It has been challenging. After several rewrites, professional critiquing and another couple of rewrites, I am excited that the text for ABC Bunyip Saves the Big Black Boogie Swamp is ready for this exacting audience.

So, have you heard of Bunyips? They might be “mythical creatures” that lurk in Australian waterholes ready to drag unsuspecting children into the water. But then again, they just might be real! Are you game enough to find out?

ABC Bunyip Saves the Big Black Boogie Swamp is written especially for brave eight year old boys learning to love reading and for migrants learning English and absorbing our quirky Australian culture.

If you would like to share how you got your nickname, be sure to drop me a line.

Until next time…Happy Reading!
